The Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, referred to the situation of the National Police and prisoners during an interview with Infobae. She stressed the importance of having a police force but acknowledged that having prisoners is a more complex and dark issue.
Bullrich also addressed the recent storm that affected Bahía Blanca, noting that against natural phenomena of that magnitude, no infrastructure can withstand. She explained that the city received 300 millimeters of rain in eight hours, which triggered flooding due to the overflowing of streams.
The minister toured the affected areas and assessed the damage caused, such as crushed cars and collapsed bridges. She emphasized that within minutes, the water swept everything away in some neighborhoods, highlighting the lack of control over the Penitentiary Service in the City.
On another topic, Bullrich mentioned her disagreement with Mauricio Macri, founder of PRO, suggesting that it is preferable to address differences in person rather than through social media. She explained that she tried to discuss the issue of prisoners with city authorities, such as the Minister of Justice and the Chief of Government, to transfer responsibilities in the Penitentiary System.
Regarding the actions of the National Government in terms of security, Bullrich pointed out that they are working on the transfer of prisoners in order to alleviate overcrowding in police stations and transfer responsibility for the Federal Penitentiary System to the relevant provinces. She indicated that they are prepared to provide prison personnel to the municipalities, having made the necessary agreements with the support of the Ministry of Economy.
